GoNoodle: A Resourceful App for Engaging Students in Mindfulness Activities Review
GoNoodle is an application designed to engage students while in class or at home in productive moves and mindfulness activities which boost their productivity, improve their behavior and also better their social skills. Download GoNoodle for your iOS and Android devices.
GoNoodle activities have been compiled using exercise science and top-notch research, ensuring that activities are healthy for the body, involving for the attention, and helpful for the brain in a lot of ways. Kids can select a Champ who grows each time they earn points. This is an anti-app in a way — it makes children do useful activities instead of just staring at the screen all the time.
The design of this application is nothing out of the ordinary. One of the reasons for this average rating is that the app appears cluttered, not because of too many interface elements but rather colors combinations. In addition, these colors are strong in contrast, a choice that was perhaps meant to appeal to kids, but this only results in an overwhelming interface and makes it difficult to locate some features on the screen.
GoNoodle has a slightly steep learning curve for first-time users. The main gripe about the app is that all the features are placed on a single screen, so you have to keep swiping down to get to where you need. It would have been more convenient to put groups of features in dedicated tabs. Perhaps the intention was not to confuse children with a lot of UI elements, but the result is not much more intuitive than an organized interface with multiple sections. Nevertheless, once kids understand how to use the various core elements, using the app becomes a walk in the park.
Access to things that you want to do is pretty simple as it is only a matter of tapping on a thumbnail, and you are good to go. Once you scroll down to the desired type of activity, the available options are actually presented in an organized manner. Overall, the app is simple enough for kids you use without any guidance from parents beyond the initial run-through.
Cross-Platform Use 4/5
GoNoodle is available for only two mobile OS platforms, and these are iOS and Android. As it is with any other app, this one has minimum compatibility requirements too. You can download it on your iPhone, iPad and iPod touch if they are running on iOS 9.0 or later. As to Android, GoNoodle is compatible with devices running on OS version 5.0 and up.
It is worth pointing out in this GoNoodle review that you can enjoy a lot of exciting and useful content provided in this app at no cost whatsoever. There are no premium features, subscriptions or upgrades. As a result, you get unlimited access to all content, resulting in wholesome user experience. If you are a teacher and like what the app offers, you can consider upgrading to GoNoodle Plus on the website, but it does not unlock anything in the app itself.
The Bottom Line
Download GoNoodle and change the atmosphere in the classroom, at home, or anywhere else. Mindful activities challenge kids’ problem-solving skills, helping them understand concepts taught at school much better. The app is excellent at keeping children fit and healthy thanks to the movement activities. Their alertness is honed, as research-based activities build their attention span and logical thinking. Both parents and teachers will find this app excellent for kids.
GoNoodle is one of the few apps that does not harm kids — it keeps them thoroughly engaged in healthy activities.
