Review Standarts
Our main goal is to provide full and useful app reviews. Our authors strictly follow the rules: minimum 15 hours of the real app usage experience or gameplay, test on main Android and iOS versions, test on phones and tablets.

SkyView Free is an app with built-in augmented reality, which brings stargazing to everyone. Now you can discover more about stars, constellations, planets, satellites, and more space objects. SkyView download is free of charge for both Android and iOS.

Functionality 5/5

SkyView app enables for everyone not only view on the sky and see flickering dots, but also discover more information about them. For this, you don't even need to become an astronomer or read long scientific research papers. With SkyView you can just point the mobile phone at the sky, and the app will identify celestial objects. It can even find the ISS or Hubble passing overhead at your location. And for those who interested in the space the most, the developers include the alerts for upcoming events, so turn them up! Moreover, it is fully compatible with Apple Watch.

Design 5/5

After SkyView review we can say exactly, that the app has an excellent interface in the space style. The app's Night Mode comes up with two filters: red and green, so you can easily switch between them. SkyView latest version contains a lot of high-quality images of planets, stars, constellations, and galaxies. Each of them has their own page with extended information and facts. It is well-structured and saves overall design patterns. Also, the developers integrate beautiful 3D graphics of the celestial objects as you point the camera to the sky.

Usability 5/5

Although the app has a lot of different information and features, it still remains high-rate usability. Your journey starts when you point the device in a given direction on the sky. Then, you will see what planets, constellations, and even satellites are in the sky. If you are interested in one of the objects, you can zoom or just tap on it to read a bunch of facts.

Also, you can browse the planet, moons, stars, galaxies, etc. that are above the horizon and follow an arrow on the screen to locate them. SkyView app creates an interactive and exciting experience of exploring the night sky. You can even travel in time and jump to the past or future to discover how the sky looks on different dates and times. If you see something interesting, feel free to capture it and share with friends and relatives on social networks just from the app.

There is a 3-lined button on the left menu that shows you a control panel once you tap on it. Here you can tune star visibility, planet size, night mode, take snapshots, take a music control, turn on/off the augmented reality camera, enable or disable sky object trajectories, and much more.

Cross-platform use 5/5

For now, it is only the versions for Android and iOS. But you can also download it on the tablet, iPad, and iPod touch. SkyView was ranked as the best app on the Apple Store in 2011 and 2012. Now it requires iOS 11.0 or later. As for SkyView android version, you need to have OS 5.0 and up.

In-app purchases

The app is completely free of charge for Android users. However, if you want to install SkyView from the Apple Store, you must pay $1.99.

The Bottom Line

SkyView app has a beautiful and intuitive interface. It is a great tool to discover more about stars, constellations, planets, satellites, and other celestial objects. The app is available for the Android, iOS, and comes up with a lot of exciting and useful features like time traveling, augmented reality, sky path, and more. Moreover, it even Supports Space Navigator™ binoculars, spotting scope, and telescopes. Our SkyView review concludes that this app creates a fun way to teach yourself about space!
